Rafting on the Soča River

Hiking along picturesque trails
The valley of the Soča and Nadiža rivers is a true paradise for hiking enthusiasts. Numerous marked trails will lead you through spectacular valleys, beautiful forests and idyllic mountain pastures. You will admire the crystal-clear river, the cascading waterfalls and enjoy the breathtaking views of the surrounding peaks. The surrounding hills offer many attractive trails that invite hikers even in the spring and autumn months.

Hiking the Juliana Trail
This is one of the most beautiful hiking trails in the region, which allows you to explore the unspoilt nature along the Nadiža river. The route takes you through picturesque villages, past mighty rock formations and close to sights such as the Napoleon Bridge.

Walk to the Napoleon Bridge
A less demanding and shorter excursion is the hike to the famous Napoleon Bridge. This historical bridge, rising above the crystal clear Nadiža river, is a popular photo spot.

Exploring local villages
The Nadiža Valley is known for its scenic villages such as Breginj, Robidišče, Robič, Borjana, Sedlo and Logje. Walk along the paths to discover the traditional stone houses and get to know the hospitableness of the locals.

Mt. Stol (1673 m)
is located in the longest ridge in the Julian Alps. The reef measures 25 km (15.5 miles) or as much as 35 km (22 miles), if we include the western (Italian) part. On the ridge of Mt. Stol, at 1370 m.a.m.s.l, there is the mountain pass Božca. This is the highest point on the Stol mountain range, which can be reached by car. A gravel road leads over the pass, connecting Breginjski kot with Bovška dolina (Bovec Valley). Several well-marked trails lead to Mt. Stol Degree of difficulty of the trail: partially demanding marked trail or easy marked trail, walking time: 3-4 hours.

Mt. Muzec (Musc) is a 1612m
high mountain located north of Breginjski kot. On the western side, a little below the summit, at an altitude of 1,550 m.a.m.s.l, there is also a bivouac. Several well-marked trails lead to Mt. Muzec. Degree of difficulty of the trail: partially demanding marked trail, walking time: 3-4 hours.

Podbela–Mija (1237 m)–Pradolina– PodbelaŽ
Mija is a wooded and scenic hill above the village of Podbela, which is surrounded on one side by the national border and on three sides by the Nadiža river. Mija offers a splendid view of the Stol mountain range, Matajur and the Nadiža river valley. The route is easy; walking time: 2.5 hours.

Breginj–Sv. Marjeta pod Stolom (Saint Margaret under Mt. Stol) (973 m)
On the Stol mountain range, a little above Breginj, just below the forest line, there is a church dedicated to St. Margaret. Degree of difficulty of the route: easy marked route, walking time: 1-1.5 hours.

Breginj–Plazi–Brezje
The undemanding mountain trail that runs along the Bela stream, which is famous for its characteristic "šperas" barriers, leads past many local attractions, such as the source of drinking water Čadonov studenček (well), the monument to those who fell in the Second World War in Plaze and the source of the Nadiža river. For hikers, an even easier version of the route is the traditional hike from Breginj to Brezje, which takes place every last weekend in September. Walking time: 3 hours.

Breginj–Muzec–Breški Jalovec
A slightly more demanding tour in terms of fitness. The route leads past many natural and cultural attractions. Partly demanding marked trail, walking time: 5 hours.

Juliana Trail
is a circular long-distance hiking trail, 270 km (168 miles) long, which takes you along the edge of the Julian Alps and the Triglav National Park at the foot of the mighty mountains. Additional 4 stages lead to Brda.

Alpe Adria Trail
is a cross-border long-distance hiking trail that connects three regions: the Austrian Carinthia, Slovenia and the Friuli-Julian region on a total of 43 stages and 750 km (466 miles). The hiking trail leads from the foot of Austria's highest mountain, Grossglockner, through the Carinthian mountain and laky landscape, through Kranjska Gora to the Soča Valley, and from there across Friuli to Goriška Brda and through the Italian and Slovenian karst to Trieste and the Adriatic coast.

Hiking Festival
In September and October, the most beautiful months for hiking, the Soča Valley hosts a Hiking Festival every year. You can discover the beauties of nature and the monuments of the past under the guidance of experienced guides.
The hiking festival includes organized hikes that are suitable for both, families and more demanding mountain lovers.

The Walk of Peace from the Alps to the Adriatic
The route connecting the heritage of the First World War from the Alps to the Adriatic is included in the tentative list of UNESCO heritage.

Hike to the Boka waterfall
The Boka waterfall is one of the highest waterfalls in Slovenia. The hike to the Boka waterfall is popular among hikers and offers wonderful views of the surrounding nature.

Hike to the hills of Mount Krn
If you are a more experienced hiker, you can climb to the top of Mount Krn, one of the highest peaks in the Julian Alps. The view from Mount Krn onto many other peaks and the Soča Valley is breathtaking.

Triglav National Park is located near the Soča Valley, where you will find many other hiking trails suitable for both beginners and experienced hikers.

Cycling
Experience the natural beauty of the Soča and Nadiža valleys by bicycle. The valley offers numerous cycling routes, which are intended for cyclists of different profiles and difficulty levels. You can tailor your itinerary to suit your preferences – you can take an easy family outing on flat terrain or challenge yourself by climbing the nearby hills, or visit picturesque Venetian villages in neighbouring Italy.

Swimming and relaxing by the Nadiža river
The Nadiža river is famous for its natural pools, where you can relax instantly and entirely, and enjoy the refreshing water. After a busy day of activities, treat yourself to moments of relaxation on the banks of the river.

Visiting historical sights
In addition to outdoor sports activities, you can embark on cultural exploration. Visit historical sites to learn about the area's rich heritage. The Breginjski kot offers many private ethno-military collections, such as the Mazora Museum Collection and the War Museum Collection Stol 1915-1917. The earthquake in 1976 almost completely wiped the villages in the Breginjski kot from the map. Only three houses remained, as a memory of a pearl of Slovenian-Venetian architecture. The Breginj Museum, the only preserved part of the old village core, is today also the only witness to the image of the former village of Breginj. In this idyllic setting, you will be welcomed by the friendly staff of the Kuore Sa? bar, who also take care of the varied events in Breginj during the summer months.
At the confluence of the Bela (Rio Blanco) and the Nadiža rises the solitary mountain Lup, and on it stands the church of St. Helen. There used to be fairs at the church of St. Helen's, where people came, even from the coastal parts, for bargains. The naturally well-protected location was inhabited already in ancient times.

Enjoy traditional dishes prepared from fresh local ingredients, and try local specialties such as Tolminc cheese, Kobarid štruklji, polenta, frika, natural flower honey and homemade herbal spirits. In the immediate vicinity there are numerous inns and restaurants as well as tourist farms with locally produced food.
